The first day of Melbourne Show is
always a great day - full of expectation, and the fun of the fair. The weather was a
little bleak and at times quite nippy. While their was a threat of rain and a few
spots of the same ... it remained dry and no classes were spoilt by a downpour. There were some really lovely horses - even though I am a dressage not, I
just love the beauty of a finely bred thoroughbred. There were many that stood out,
and I saw Pam Ahern exercising a truly lovely grey with a beautifully sculptured head -
perhaps he will be a winner later in the week!
They day seemed a little quiet to me and when I spoke to
Peter Wagner, he said that in the 14 years that he has been coming to the Royal, this has
been the quietest that he has known it. Maybe it was the weather, or maybe people
are a little flat, following the recent and tragic US Terrorist attacks.
The horses were all beautifully presented, and a walk around
the stables reveals the dedication and hours that make this possible. Here are some of the
lovely horses that I saw today. |
