It is always a very
special experience to be present for the judging of a Royal Show Championship, for this is
where the winners of the various classes meet and the best of the best is selected to
become the Champion. This is the first year where 4 winning Galloways were eligible
to take part in the Championship and they were 4 truly outstanding horses. Judge Lyndon Hearn gave the Galloways every chance
to show their best, and it seemed that those that may have been disadvantaged by the
weather got the opportunity to go over any little mistakes.
As with the Lady's Hack class, which was judged just a little
earlier - the weather was not kind. It was a changeable mix of Melbourne Spring ...
changing from sunshine to gusty winds which were sometimes accompanied by quite heavy
rain. I am sure the competitors would have had their fingers and toes crossed,
hoping that they managed to get one of the calm and sunny breaks for their workout.
For almost all of the competitors who made it through to this
Royal Show Championship this moment would be a highlight of the year (if not ... THE ...
highlight) and they would be counting on everything to be just right.
