No 305 - Peter
Gmoser for Austria riding Williband's Candidat a 15 yo Holstein gelding by Chamisso.
Peter looks so handsome in his Military uniform and this was a very elegant
performance. The technical marks were affected by rushing extensions and thigh frame
in the half passes.
The horse has a
modest Piaffe. When you see the best horses in the world mostly struggling with the
same more demanding movements, you realise that Dressage is just so difficult to make
perfect. Peter scored a very creditable 64.08% for 43rd. Place.
No. 336 is Yvette
Truesdale on Accolade, representing Ireland. While this country is steeped in
equestrian history Dressage is quite a new part of their focus. I had a very
pleasant conversation with the Irish Chef d'Equipe Jean Keogh and felt a little closer to
this performance through her enthusiasm.
Accolade
is a 15 yo gelding by the Actor - no other details is given. The horse lacked
engagement throughout the test and this would have been costly in all movements. The
mark of 64.32% reflects the presence of harmony and lightness of the forehand at they came
42nd. overall.
Number
304 is Mary Hanna for Australia, riding her imported 11 Danish Warmblood gelding Limbo, by
Lucky Light. This horse started life as a show jumper and fortunately Kyra Kyrklund
recognised his talent and he had a career change to Dressage. Mary and Limbo have
been partners for many years and they also took part in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
This combination have been based with Anky Van Grunsven and Skef Jansen for the past 4
months in preparation for this competition. Limbo worked well but was not always
engaged. They had some bad luck in the opening extended trot when it seemed that
Limbo either tripped or perhaps stood on his front shoe as he tripped ad almost went
down. Being the consummate professional - Mary kept her cool and went on to produce
a nice test which flowed well. There no real mistakes but it did not obtain that
'special something' that draws the high 70% marks from this demanding lineup of judges.
They scored 64.40% which gave them 41st placing, and disappointingly denying them a
go in the Special.
Number
366 - Olha Klymko and Bosporus-S from the Ukraine. This combination were one
of the last to go on the first day of competition. The light was fading and it was
still and very hot. This horse is a 14 yo gelding with no information about his
breeding on the start list. This horse was a little above the bit for much of his
test, this hindered the engagement and the quality of much of the work. I felt that
he attained a quite generous mark under the circumstances - 64.44 % and 40th placing.
There is so little between all of the horses - it is often difficult from the
sidelines to see what the judges saw to encourage them to award or subtract marks.
Number
306 was Nina Stadlinger on Egalite. They were representing Austria. Egalite is
a lovely upstanding gelding - a 12 yo Westfalian. They did not start well as the horse
stepped back and away from the first halt. He was not always on the aids and I felt that
the test lacked bend and flow in many parts. It was not steady enough and I was a
little surprised by the mark ... as mentioned before, it is very difficult to see the same
picture as the judges when you sit on the sidelines. They scored 64.64% for 39th
position at the end of the Grand Prix competition. Only the top 25 go through to the
Special and then the top 15 of these horse progress to perform their Freestyle ride.
