The Intermediate 2 class - the first class at the 2001 National Dressage Championships continues ...

inter2socrates1.jpg (16157 bytes) APH Socrates - another of the talented Kassiber horses on the scene.  What a legacy this imported Trakehner stallion has left!  Socrates is from the purebred Trakehner mare Samland (as was Solo ll).

Young Linda Foster has done a wonderful job with this horse and deserves full credit to have reached the top.

The transition to walk was a particularly lovely moment - a notable highlight in the test.

inter2socrates2.jpg (15780 bytes) APH Socrates the trot work was spacious and expressive and marks will be even higher as they develop a little more collection.

This was a very nice test with a pleasing score for Linda - 60.49% and a 5th placing.

inter2euphoria1.jpg (18213 bytes) Euphoria and Lucas Hurps - little known combination at this level ! Lucas told me later that this competition was only the horse's fourth start at Grand Prix.

The first extended trot was a little wild, but Lucas got the horse back on track for a stylish half pass sequence.

This horse can really lift in the Piaffe/Passage tour and this was a highlight of the test

inter2euphoria2.jpg (16525 bytes) Euphoria and Lucas Hurps - It is nice to see a young a talented combination coming up through the ranks - Lucas and Euphoria would be an inspiration to those who think that the only horses to succeed are the imported 'mega dollar' warmblooods.

Euphoria raced until he was 6 and lucas has started dressage with the horse's early experience to overcome.

Congratulations on a fantastic ride and a great score of 59.17%

inter2cpgreta1.jpg (19363 bytes) Victorian Vet Lisa Alexander on her talented mare Campaspe Park Greta.  Greta is a seasoned and successful horse and this combination are on the National Talent Squad.

Greta is by Granada who has sired some fantastic moving horses - some of which have been difficult to train (as was Granada himself!)

Lisa has worked through any early problems to have produced a horse with great talent in the Piaffe/Passage and Flying Changes.

inter2cpgreta2.jpg (14786 bytes) Campaspe Park Greta was bred by Peter Powells from Northern Warmblood Stud in Victoria.

In an uncharacteristic manner, Greta broke in an extended trot, and there was a loss of balance in the first canter pirouette.

The tempi changes are Greta's 'party piece' but today, there were mistakes in the 2 times.  The one times were lovely.

I always enjoy Greta's dressage, and   todaywas no exception, but the mistakes were costly and they scored 57.71%.

inter2byaleet1.jpg (18493 bytes) Heath Ryan on Byalee Tomorrow - he is by Ludendorf, and if you take a look at the breeding of each of the horses entered in this competition - it is easy to see the legacy this great imported stallion has left.   It is such a pity that FEI level takes so long and stallions have often 'gone out of fashion' by the time their progeny start to prove themselves.

Hopefully the introduction of the Young Horses classes will overcome this!

inter2byaleet2.jpg (16453 bytes) Heath did a fantastic job on this horse and gave him every opportunity to shine!

The half passes appeared a little stiff, lacking bend and flow.   There were some regularity problems in each of the passage sequences - the horse seemed to want to canter and this introduced a skipping step or two.

The Piaffe was quite nice.  The canter pirouettes began from a slight travers position - and all of these little things would have cost marks.  They scored 58.83%.

inter2exellent1.jpg (18049 bytes) Rozzie Ryan and her wonderful partner Exellent put in a very solid performance.

Exellent is an imported Dutch bred gelding by Saros from the mare Riolette.

He was imported by Dr. Margaret Evans some years ago,  specifically for Rozzie to campaign with a view to international representation.

Like all talented horses Exellent is a flamboyant mover.  When this is under control he is hard to beat.  On a bad day tension and irregularity will spoil his work.

inter2exellent3.jpg (15991 bytes) Rozzie Ryan and Exellent did a very nice test with no real mistakes - just a few tense moments in the Piaffe/Passage tour.

A great performance and score of 62.44% and 4th place.
