VASA 2002 SADDLE HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Royal Melbourne Horse Show - 6th January 2001
Champion Large Saddle Pony
over 12.2 and not over 14 hands - Page 1
This
class was a testament to the impact that quality international bloodlines have made to the
Australian pony population. No longer do we see 'clumpy' heavy ponies with laboured
movement and course in type! The ponies in this class could be miniature hacks - of
the most outstanding quality - and they moved like small dressage horses.
I am sure that most of you will be aware of the
EFA Dressage Sub-Committee's plans to introduce classes for ponies - and this ring had
many individuals who would make their mark in this new discipline.
A truly lovely and elegant pony
Tungarra Storytime, ridden by Jane Cozens.
Tungarra Storytime produced a
beautiful flowing workout with accuracy and flair.
Willowcroft Regal Ensign and
Briony Payne.
Regal Ensign has matured
considerably since I saw him at Hidden Valley last year and Briony Payne did a great job
with him.
Mirinda Mardi Gras the nomination
of Laura Elliot from Mt. Martha in Victoria and ridden by Laura.
Mirinda Mardi Gras - to me he
looked very headstrong and this spoiled the softness and harmony.
Linda Hayes on the striking black
mare Phantom Park Empress
Phantom Park Empress - it was a
polished performance but just not quite forward enough to 'dazzle' the crowd.
The Nomination of Mrs. June Bode
from New South Wales - Falconhurst First Class, was expertly ridden by Dale Plumb.
Falconhurst First Class it was a
foot perfect workout and in keeping with the horse's great success throughout the 2001
season.
