VASA 2002 SADDLE HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Royal Melbourne Horse Show - 6th January 2001
Champion Saddle Galloway 14 h & not
over 15 h - Page 2
As
you would expect the top ten Galloways were outstanding. It would have been only a
question of personal preference from the judges that would allow them to separate this
wonderful show horses.
The riders must be commended for their care in
presentation. It was a very hot day - the first one for Melbourne's Summer -
and yet they all seemed composed, and completely focused on presenting their horses
to best advantage.
Last years winner - Good Will
Hunting and Pam Ahern. I never get tired of watching this combination.
Pam is such a perfectionist and is prepared to put in the effort to ensure that
everything is just right.
For Good Will Hunting (Pokie) and
Pam it was a foot perfect workout, as is indicated in the picture of his beautifully
balanced canter. The horse was soft and flowing .. what else could they do?
Even in the hand gallop Pokie
remained attentive and on the aids. At the end of this workout, I had a
feeling that it may well have been enough to put them ahead of the horses so far !
Silkwood Celebrity - the
nomination of Miss J. Jacobson and ridden by the 2001 Garryowen Trophy winner - Margot
Hayes from Undarra in South Australia.
Margot works with Chris and Vicky
Lawrie and is the niece of Helen Heagney so there is a wealth of showing experience behind
Margot.
This galloway did not have the exciting
trot that made some of the other galloways really stand out.
TT Desert Pea - nominated by the
Walsh Family and ridden by Briony Payne.
TT Desert Pea - a lovely type and
was 'right up there' in the quality of the workout.
Miss Sally Thomas rides her own
Mirinda Showcase.
A very clean and
accurate workout. Even though I am sure this horse has a little pony in his
breeding, he represented the more 'old fashioned' type.
Mirinda Showcase appears to have
a very nice nature.
