VASA 2002 SADDLE HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Royal Melbourne Horse Show - 6th January 2001
Champion Saddle Galloway 14 h & not
over 15 h - Page 1 |
|
From
a very large class with around 60 of the State's top Galloways entered, the final ten came
forward to work for the prestigious award - The VASA Champion Saddle Galloway for 2002.
This Champion of Champion award takes in the horse's performances during the 2001
Agricultural Show season. This is an event, where there are really no losers, as
every horse has had to work their way through top performances at Victoria'
Agricultural Shows. The owners and riders are committed to their showing and travel
many kilometers - all over Victoria - to ensure that they have the necessary scores on the
board to be accepted for this final contest. Some years ago Galloways were almost
exclusively small thoroughbred horses. In more recent times we are seeing a mix with
a large number of the quality exhibits having riding pony in their blood. |
|
Mirinda Imprint ridden by Master
Eurell. A lovely type but a little resistant at
times. |
|
With a sound background of horses
in the family - the Eurell's would have been very proud to have made it to top ten with
Mirinda Imprint |
|
A quality Galloway with Riding Pony (Syon Splendour, I
think!!) in his breeding - Eleda Park Yeoman and
Sally Watkins from Tocumwal.. |
|
Eleda Park Yeoman would have come
into this event as a hot favourite, as he hardly ever leaves the show ring without a blue
ribbon. Sally is a very keen rider and
dedicated to giving her lovely horse every chance to do well.
Yeoman got a fright in the extended canter - at this level
this loss of concentration and flow would have been costly - such a pity for Sally. |
|
Stephen Merry on the attractive
brown Myscal Aloof. This horse was nominated by S. Merry and Myscal Pony Stud, which
says that he too probably has some pony blood. |
|
Myscal Aloof lacked the softness
and flair of some, but still a quality horse. As I said earlier, it would have been
very small differences that separated the top ten in this class. |
|
Silkwood Slip Stream, nominated
by Carol Lindeman and ridden by her talented daughter Sarah. This pony galloway has matured a great deal since his success at Barastoc
last year,. He is one of the best movers on the circuit, at the present time. |
|
Silkwood Slip Stream is so loose
and soft, he worked very well but lacked the polish and education in with the more
experienced horses. |
