Wallgrove Road, Horsley Park.

Class 28 ACE Group 4 over stallion

The stallion class is always a great spectacle.  They always look in "spring coat" and the interactions of these magnificent creatures with other horses, their handlers, the crowd and the judge all makes for great entertainment.  Of course for the competitors (people) it is a very important opportunity to show their breeding boys to would be customers for the coming season.  I am sure that winning is not everything, as this will be a matter of personal taste and preference of the judge(s) and all of the stallions presented today were very different and commendable in their own right.

The handlers did a great job and were perfectly in control at all times.  The skill of the handler is being recognised at these important competitions, and many horses at the 2003 AWHA Gala Weekend were being presented by professionals.  With so much h at stake - this is a great move.  It shows that Australians are  getting to the European way where the production and sale of performance and riding horses is a profession and we will increasingly expect professional standards to apply to all aspects of a sport which has up until quite recently been just a hobby for most.

I mention this aspect, as the breeders who are doing it correctly and in the European mould, find it difficult to compete when ONLY price is the consideration.  Professional studs go to great lengths to ensure that they sell an excellent product and their customers are very pleased with their purchase.  Happy customers come back and they tell their friends.  Most people recognise that 'word of mouth' business is the bet business.

Hobbyist or the one off vendor has no such obligation for future dealings and as will have relatively few repercussions if the product is not what he said it was.  This is well worth considering when looking to buy a horse that will be your partner for many years to come.

The Australian breed societies such as the AWHA are there to support both the breeder and the owner and are therefore an excellent conduit for meeting the requirements of both.  Membership is well worthwhile - even if you are just an enthusiastic spectator.

Back to the stallions ...

22 Tallyho Voltaire 3rd
39 Heyde Domezaar 4th
45 Jaybee Alabaster 1st
58 Statford Mantovani 2nd

Jaybee Alabaster the outstanding stallion imported by Bev and John Edwards from Queensland.
He is by the glorious chestnut stallion Alabaster and from a mare by the wonderful black stallion Glorieux.  It is fantastic to think that we have such bloodlines here in Australia.

Congratulations to all concerned.

Jaybee Alabaster was handled so very well by Tor Van Den Berg from NSW who gets the gig whenever the Jaybee horses are in town - A fantastic demonstration of horsemanship and showmanship from Tor (who is the partner of well know FEI Dressage rider Claire Wickens.
Statford Mantovani also a lovely type of stallion.  I was interested to learn that this handsome fellow is the model in the gorgeous 'Herbal Horse' promotional pic, knee deep in lavender.

I did not really capture him at the right moment and this pic does not do him justice.

He is b y Statford Grimaldo from a mare by Pot Black.  Margo Boldt's love stallion Don Georgio is also by the outstanding black TB stallion Pot Black.  This horse is owned by Statford Park Stud.

Heyde Domezaar

Victoria Ferguson was an enthusiastic supporter of this competition.  As a former FEI rider she appreciated the requirement to have a good horse,  and has focussed her more recent attention on how to keep them healthy and happy!

Nevada Vivaldi’s Belle by the outstanding Valuta stallion Vivaldi, from the TB mare Steven's Belle.
She is owned and was bred by Kim Lauko

Statford Desiree by Statford Nostradamus from the Distelfink mare Delusion.  She is still quite immature and shows great promise.

Silver Hills Ruby - picture taken at an earlier indoor class.  She is by Ludendorf from the Skyhigh mare Diamond B High Society.  She is a beautiful, elegant type who was bred and is owned by Dr. N. Doong.

Brae Donleila - again photo comes from an earlier class.  This is a nice mare by Don Ramiro and from the Winterkoenig mare Wintermaiden.  This mare showed glimpse's of the wonderful Don Ramiro looseness but was not forward enough to really impress. She was bred by her owner Angela Latter.
