With
30 horses listed to start in the Intermediate 1 Championship - it makes for very
interesting observation to watch these horses as they approach the 'pointy end' of
dressage. Without excellent basic training and willingness to express free forward
movement - the next step will be impossible. This level represents many, many years
of work and yet it is realistically just over half the way to being established at Grand
Prix. Many riders will be reaching this level for the first time ... and it is
difficult to comprehend just how much more to go until you have taken the journey at least
once, then a secon time as a comparison! Almost all the horses that I watched have much to commend their performance, but quite a few lacked the true collection that adds beauty, lightness and ease of movement to this demanding list of requirements. |

![]() Warming up for their winning ride - Jane Bruce on the wonderfully elegant mare Neversfelde Kudu |
![]() Dusseldorf - the stallion by Du - Ridden by the charming Heather Currie - formerly from SA, now residing in the Hunter Valley of NSW. - |
|||||
![]() From SA ... Ruth Schneeberger and Superstar another combination to show great improvement in the past year or so. 2nd. place a well deserved reward for effort. |
![]() Warming up for their ride - Hayley Beresford and HP Galactic - he looked fantastic outside, but became a little spooky indoors - such a pity. He was very well ridden by Hayley - formerly from WA. |
|||||
![]() Julia Battams and BWS Stolichnaya put in an accurate and correct performance |
![]() Such a nice pair - Northern Ajax and Heather Gee. Ajax has been working well and coping with the demands of FEI very well, but something was not quite right in the indoor - perhaps the decorations were not to his liking - much of the test was of very good quality. |
|||||
![]() Belcam Aarchon and Emmie Schmul from Victoria - such a lovely moving horse with the self carriage and presence to take him right to the top. |
![]() Karen Davis and Cairo 869 - this imported stallion worked very well with much better self carriage and expression than when I saw him last. Karin did a great job to get him used to her way of riding in just three weeks - says a lot for his temperament. Later he sill be standing at stud in Victoria. |
|||||
![]() Heather Kirkman on her charming Percheron cross gelding Goodwill |
![]() Judy Smith on Flora Morison's lovely chestnut gelding Kaskadeur. Kas always tries and win or lose his owners and connections are proud of him. |
|||||
![]() Anne Barber from NSW on the divinely elegant imported gelding Iwan. This horse could do anything but seemed unsettled today and did not do as well as his spectacular presence promised he would! Better luck next time Anne. |
![]() Justine Greer on Isle of Hinton a horse she purchased from her riding instructor Charlotte Pedersen. Hinton has been a wonderful partner for Justine who has not only learned lots from his solid education ... they have also had considerable success - well done Justine. |
