			Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre, K Road, Werribee, Victoria 10-13 April, 2003 - Page 3 Friday 11th - by Berni Saunders
			Friday was mostly gloomy and overcast, with the threat of more rain ever present. The morning was the worst - by early afternoon the weather cleared and later it even managed a little sunshine. Raincoats and umbrellas sold well and the colourful brolleys were a comforting reminder that it still CAN rain in drought striken Victoria! The advanced classes are always interesting. For many the later Advanced tests present a similar standard of assessment to that in the Prix St Georges. At many competitions the numbers in Advanced classes are often down with people opting to ride the lovely flowing movements of the Prix St Georges test and the opportunity to wear the Top Hat and Tails (The Top Hat issue has been resolved and FEI riders are now allowed to wear them in the warm up and competition ring - not walking to and from these areas - so be careful!!) The Novice horses had a mixed lot weather wise - some caught the showers and other were lucky to have a lovely sunny time of the day. All riders and horses coped well and some very nice flowing work was the result.
			Advanced
			Balmoral Ice and Young Rider Fiona McNaught from Mornington in Victoria. Fiona has a busy weekend taking part in several tests. This is one of my favourite horses - he has excellent balance and self carriage and has been a consistent performer for Fiona.		Torlea Magnum McOhl and Louise Just They did a very nice Advanced test in Arena 3. Louise has taken over the ride on this lovely horse from her mum Heather Redman and looks forward to learning more from him.
			Palmerston Barnum and Caroline King - they performed very well in the 5E. This horse can really move and Caroline is a capable and tactful rider.		Northern Delphinius and Debra Court - such a lovely horse with a distinctive white splash on his belly!
			All the way from Queensland - Nicole Magoffin who is riding Bev Edwards love stallion Jaybee Leuwin. Nicole has earned a reputation as a talented rider when she rode Jaybee Applause to success in the 3-4 YO class at Dressage with the Stars. She got the last minute ride on this horse when her 'Young Rider mount' Benalbyn Classic went lame.		Taking part in the Advanced classes is NSW based Equestrian photographer and well respected show horse and dressage judge - Roger Fitzhardinge on his striking grey gelding Berkeley Castle.

			Mal Owens on his consistent performer Northern Amadeus - Mal and wife Erica work very hard for the sport of Dressage		Rebecca Humphrys from South Australia on HP Tortilla - a horse she bought as a 3 Yo and has taken right through the grades - well done Rebecca!

			Novice
			Preparing for their Novice ride is Maree Tomkinson on her striking black import - Walton. The horse took fright at the antics of an approaching stallion and Maree decided that to push it was not wise. Walton is a lovely stallion and they will certainly have their day.		Reiner Kramer on Jaybee Amanda - pic taken earlier this year. Amanda was the Novice Champion. This talented mare is by Aachimedes (by Aachen imp/exp). Reiner rides her so very well - congratulations on a job well done.
			Kerryn Connors and KC Spiderman - a lovely moving gelding by Inspiration		Making it into the Championships from the Reserve List is Dellwood Amy ridden by Kay Champion - a 5th and 8th placing made the trip from NSW well worth while - Congratulations.
			Congarninni Carnival and Peta Cormack from NSW gained a 2nd place in the Young Rider Novice class.		Jodie Juricic on her charming grey AEA Inspirado. Jodie and her husband John are great supporters of the sport here in Victoria. Jodie fitted her rider into a very busy 4 days work at the competition - well done.
