The
Terry Carson trained Latin Lava erupted onto the jumps racing scene in the Jack Dreschler
Memorial Hurdle over 3000 metres at Bendigo last Saturday, scoring a narrow win in a race
which saw the three placegetters all making their jumping debut.
The victory, by a mere head over the Terry
O Sullivan trained Heric, saw the 4yo son of Western Symphony become the youngest
horse to win a jumping event to date this year, with Missingham Bridge making it a clean
sweep for the newcomers by finishing third, a further one and a half lengths astern.
It was the first time that Latin Lava has
saluted the judge in his short career with the switch to hurdling looming as a long term
proposition for the horse, whose previous best result was obtained running second in a
1800 metre event at Hanging Rock on New Years Day.
That placing was one of 10 starts this time in
for Latin Lava, who has now galloped his way past the 20 kilometre mark in raceday mileage
this preparation, a fact which must have benefited him in the run to the wire on Saturday.
Winning jockey, Adrian Garraway enjoyed his
change in fortune, having been without a victory this calendar year prior to linking up
with Latin Lava. Since refusing the ride aboard the Andrew Wilson trained Osborne Well
earlier in the year, Garraway has had to watch on in despair whilst the gelding has gone
on to score successive victories under the guidance of Willie Harnett.
But his newfound association with this
promising young hurdler may yet prove to offer him long term recompense for that decision.
So we look forward to following the progress
of another rising star in our spectacular sport and keeping you posted on all the news
from the world of jumps racing.
In the meantime, we can also look forward to
the new look Australian Jumps Racing Association site currently under construction by John
Adams, which will prove to be a major boost for all fans.
Til then.................you can always,
GO JUMP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
