Widden Stud has always been synonymous with Australias most sought after
stallions and the historic home of luminaries such as Todman, Lunchtime, Vain and
Bletchingly is rapidly garnering a reputation as the southern hemisphere home of
Danzigs most dynamic sire sons.
Now champion two-year-old Mujahid (USA)
will join Danzig sires Anabaa (USA), Belong To Me (USA), and Agnes World (USA) to ensure
Widden Stud continues to lead the way with the worlds most dominant sire line.
The formidable quartet perfectly
complements a stallion roster representing globally successful sire lines, with proven Mr.
Prospector horse Jade Robbery (USA), impeccably bred champion miler Charnwood Forest
(IRE), Kris. S horse Dr. Fong and exciting Australasian stallions Filante, Shovhog and
Intergaze.
"Mujahid is a champion son of Danzig
out of a stakes winning daughter of Storm Cat," said Widden Stud Marketing Manager
Antony Thompson. "He was Timeform-rated 125 at two and he defeated a field including
Auction House, Stravinsky, Lujain, Enrique and Indian Danehill to win the 1998 Group One
Dewhurst Stakes."
"There is no doubt in our mind that
Mujahids Dewhurst performance entitles him to a place at the top of the two-year-old
pecking order" - Timeform.
"At three he ran a close third to
Island Sands in the 2,000 Guineas," he said. "His sire and maternal grandsire
Fappiano are just about the most potent influences in the world for speed and precocity
and Mujahid himself is a strong, powerful, robust horse. He looks like he will sire early
two-year-olds. He has a big hindquarter, a strong forearm and great depth of girth."
Mujahid - whose name means
"fighter" - was raced by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, best known here as the owner
of topliners including Melbourne Cup winner Jeune. Coming into the Dewhurst after winning
his first two outings including an easy six length Salisbury victory, Mujahid upstaged
"the big three" in what was regarded as the most intensively competitive
two-year-old race of the modern era with his two-length victory. He trained on at three to
finish 1-1/2 lengths third to Island Sands and Enrique in the 2,000 Guineas.
Mujahid is by sire phenomenon Danzig whose sons have
already proven to nick brilliantly with Australasias Star Kingdom and Sir Tristram
line mares. He is the first foal of Elrafa Ah, a daughter of Kentucky-based sire Storm
Cat.
