The
Thoroughbred Racehorse Owners Association is delighted to announce the appointment
of new Committee Member, Barbara Duff. Barbara, an
enthusiastic TROA member has successfully raced horses in family partnership for ten years
and she is ideally qualified to join the Committee.
Barbaras keen interest in racing was heightened years
ago when her Jugah filly Mimazan, raced in partnership with her husband Peter and son
Andrew recorded three city wins and was beaten a nose in a Blue Diamond Prelude. Mimazan
was bought by Bruce McHugh for stud purposes and Barbara then experienced racings
fluctuating fortunes until she approached the New Zealand breeders of Laebeel who agreed
to lease the filly to Barbara and Andrew Duff to race with Adelaide owner Malcolm Marker
and his family. Laebeel notched eight wins including the 1998 TROA sponsored Matriarch
Stakes.
TROA president, David Lauritz said today, "We are very
pleased that Barbara Duff is joining the committee. Barbara is going to be a great help to
us as she has a good knowledge of racing and is very enthusiastic about TROA, horse
ownership, and she recognises the need to encourage more people to go to the races. One of
Barbaras main roles within TROA will be to initiate social events for owners. We are
fortunate to have the commitment of a person who has had great experience working on
charity and other committees".
