Enhancing member privileges and ensuring the racetrack is a fun place to be year round are priorities for marketing consultant John Ingham, who will stand for election to the Australian Jockey Club committee.

johningham.jpg (18654 bytes)The youthful managing director of vibrant company Upstart Marketing aims to bring his marketing and business expertise, with a particular focus on using new technology to benefit racegoers, to the position if he is successful.

Ingham, 37, has been an AJC member for 19 years and is a keen racegoer, regularly attending country, interstate and overseas meetings as well as those in Sydney.

“I love racing and I’ve been an AJC member for half my life; I own and breed horses and my family has been racing for three generations,” said Ingham, who is the son of prominent owner Bob Ingham and the nephew of former committeeman Jack Ingham.

“My interest and experience in marketing and new technology will help racing face the challenges of the new millennium, and I am prepared to listen to members, racegoers, industry participants and experts to find solutions to the issues facing our industry at present,” he said.

“I’m eager to address issues such as the racing calendar, especially during carnivals, and member privileges – because I believe a club is nothing but its’ members.

“We need to introduce a new generation to racing and make sure they have a good day out at the races, and not just during the carnival days. Members of the committee are ultimately service providers and I believe it is very important that the committee is fully accessible to members.”

After graduating with a Business Administration degree, Ingham worked at various levels with Inghams Enterprises before taking on the role of National Marketing Manager. He now runs a marketing company that specializes in the design and maintenance of websites and remains a consultant to Inghams Enterprises.

Postal votes must reach the AJC by June 6.
