Waikerie Easter show is a real family affair,
with showjumping, hacking and pony club events run over Saturday and Sunday of the Easter
weekend. They even have an Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning for children of all ages. It
is a very relaxing show, with many people travelling up as early as Wednesday to make it
their Easter holidays. The committee put on a barbecue on Saturday night for the competitors and the Victorian Hackies provided some great impromptu entertainment in the form of drag queen "David" as seen below.
SHOWJUMPING The first event on each day was an 80cm win a ribbon encourage. The field ranged from young children just starting their showjumping careers to experienced riders with novice horses. Picture right: Up and coming star Olivia Hamood (daughter of Paula Hamood) riding Eddy. The main junior class of the weekend saw seven clear rounds out of 23 starters. The first to go in the jump off was Sheridan Manuel riding his brother Lachlans horse Cut Loose, they jumped clear in a time of 46.37 to finish 2nd , they were just pipped at the post by Crystal Porter riding Jessys La Vida Loca who jumped a lovely clear in 46.10 to win the class.
The main senior class was the Riverland championships run under table AM4, there were three clears in the first round, Spiderbait ridden by National showjumping chairman Jeff Evans, Terrific ridden by Gareth Heron and M.E.C. Street Talk ridden by Michelle Clark. Terrific and M.E.C. Street Talk both jumped clear to advance to the final jump-off, while unfortunately Jeff missed a fence to be eliminated. Jeff and Spiderbait are a fairly new combination and are really going well together. In the final round Terrific and Gareth were first out and unfortunately tried to angle a fence too tight resulting in a fall. M.E.C. Street Talk, who has not had a start since Warrnambool due to injury, jumped a steady 4 fault round to win the class. Placegetters in the Riverland
Championships
