Nationals 2001 Day 3 Saturday 27th
October, 2001 A glorious day, perfect
in every way. A world class venue, and the most beautiful horses - truly the best in
Australia! I spoke to many people including judges, officials and other keen drssage
enthusiasts - and all were in total agreement - the standard for the 2001 National
Dressage Championships is the best we have seen so far.
This rather brief account of the day's and evening's
activities does not allow for the detail and thoroughness to mention the numerous
highlights. The outstanding performer of the day was Heath Ryan. He won the Medium 4E on
Greenoaks Legend and was runner up on Greenoaks Dundee. Paula Price did a very nice test
on APH True Seville and earned a third ribbon.
Later on in the evening, in a truly thrilling
event, he won the Grand Prix Kur with a ride that took big risks - and in true Heath Ryan
style - he pulled it off. Heath did a fantastic job and yet at the presentation he showed
the humility of a true gentleman by enthusiastically acknowledging the consideration of
Stilton's owner Peter Bunn. Heath marvelled that Peter had continued to allow him the ride
on the talented horse, even though he had an 'Olympic prospect' rider in the family -
Olivia!
Heath also thanked the sponsors - in particular The Peter
Warren Group - He is pictured receiving his trophy from Kevin Browning, a Senior Executive
from this organisation.
This presentation followed a wonderful and entertaining
Grand Prix Kur competition full of variety in the artistic interpretation. Each
performance reflected something special and personal between horse and rider. The choice
of music and choreography was just so creative and imaginative it spoke volumes about the
riders and their particular flair. It was such a thrill to be part of this very special
occasion.

Rachael Sanna (formerly Downs) was the eventual CDI-W
winner on her Olymic horse Yardley Aphrodite. There was only .03% between the scores of GV
Stirling Stilton and Yardley Aphrodite and Rachael's score in Friday's Grand Prix gave her
the win.

The organisers were heartily applauded for their wonderful
job in conducting an event that offers so much to so many. All competitors agreed that the
National Championships are progressing very well from every perspective.
